In seeking to become suitably qualified as an asbestos surveyor or wishing to receive specific survey training for say a new scope of survey work even to receive refresher training , NATAS has over the years recognised that supplementary training is often required.

Practical Asbestos Survey Training

NATAS offers a range of practical and guided surveying training days and sessions for Types 1 2 & 3 surveys.

For instance, a typical practical asbestos survey training day follows an actual asbestos building survey. Under the supervision and guidance of a NATAS surveyor/trainer the trainee gets actively involved in carrying out the survey including sample taking, data collection and decision making. It is invaluable for those wishing to benefit from the experience of NATAS' asbestos surveyors, and ensures that the theory learnt is put to practice in a thorough and efficient manner.

This training will supplement the training and information received during, for instance, the BOHS P402 Asbestos Surveyors course and also provide useful practical experience in preparation for submission of the field proficiency element of the BOHS course. This course will include Types 1 & 2 level surveys in reference to the HSE asbestos surveying guidance MDHS100.

Type 3 Practical Survey Training

We also provide specific Type 3 practical surveyor training sessions. This level of survey is mandatory for pre-demolition and major refurbishment. Many newly qualified or limited experience asbestos surveyors have not had the opportunity to practice Type 3 level surveys which involved destruction inspection techniques. NATAS can supply a fully qualified and experienced surveyor to provide practical Type 3 survey training or can accompany other surveyors when conducting their own Type 3 surveys, offering practical hands-on guidance and advice.

Refresher Asbestos Surveyor Training

While there is not specific enforcement of Refresher Training for asbestos surveyors, refresher training is implied under ………………of Approved Code of Practice L27&L28. UKAS Accredited and non-accredited surveying organisations and individuals are required by virtue of their Quality Management systems to undertake regular training. NATAS can provide valuable independent refresher and update training to meet with these requirements.

Many asbestos surveyors have attended BOHS and other training courses some years ago (the BOHS P402 qualification became available in 2000), and they may not have received any further or updated training since. NATAS offers Refresher training for asbestos surveyors from 1 day to 3 days in duration. Refresher training can be combined with Practical survey training to ensure the time away from the job is spent most effectively.
